Super Eagles forward and the current African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, is slated to make his comeback from injury on February 22, as reported by Reelradio.com.ng.
Coach Eric Sekou Chelle of the Super Eagles is expected to announce his provisional squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda’s Wasps and Zimbabwe’s Warriors in the coming days.
With Lookman’s recovery progressing well, he could very well be included in the plans of the Franco-Malian coach for the vital double-header next month.
According to Transfermarkt, a reputable German football statistics site, Lookman’s anticipated return date is February 22, but it remains uncertain if he will be completely fit to play against Empoli on February 23.
If his recovery proceeds as expected, Lookman could participate in at least three matches before joining the national team for international duty next month.
The winger suffered a training ground injury right before Atalanta’s Champions League encounter with Barcelona. As a result, he has missed the last three matches for the Nerazzurri.
Currently, four matches into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Super Eagles find themselves in a challenging position, sitting second from the bottom in Group C with just three points—four behind Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin.
