The Rwanda National team has arrived at Obong Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo in preparation for the Matchday 6 encounter on Monday, which marks the final round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Rwanda’s delegation flew from Kigali to Lagos aboard a regular Rwandair flight, arriving at 1pm, before boarding an Ibom Air flight to Uyo. They landed in Uyo just before 5pm.
Although the Amavubi are feeling disheartened, they still retain a mathematical opportunity for qualification; however, their prospects are not entirely within their control, as they require favorable results from Libya.
The team’s hopes for qualification were dampened following a 1-0 defeat to Libya on Thursday, with Fahd Saad Mohamed scoring the decisive goal in the 84th minute, leaving Rwandan supporters dismayed.
Currently, the Amavubi trail Benin by two points, necessitating a victory against Nigeria in Uyo while also relying on Libya to triumph over Benin to sustain their aspirations for AFCON.
In their previous encounter in Kigali in September, Super Eagles and Rwanda tie ended in a goalless draw, although there it remains controversy surrounding Ademola Lookman’s first-half header, which was controversially disallowed by the Moroccan referee.
Notably, another Moroccan referee will officiate the match on Monday. Samir Guezzaz, aged 44, will take charge of the game, which is set to commence at 5 PM.
Guezzaz will be accompanied by his fellow countrymen Zakaria Brinsi (assistant 1), Abdessamad Abertoune (assistant 2), and Kech Chaf Mustapha (fourth official), all of whom are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday, along with Prosper Harrison Addo from Ghana (commissioner) and Ali Mohamed Ahmed from Somalia (referee assessor).
