Interim Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has summoned Captain William Ekong, alongside the highly regarded Ademola Lookman, and the currently impressive winger Moses Simon, with 20 additional players for this month’s home-and-away qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.
Included in the squad are wing-backs Olaoluwa Aina and Bruno Onyemaechi, as well as goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoya. The defensive lineup features Oluwasemilogo Ajayi and Calvin Bassey, while midfield is bolstered by Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, and Alex Iwobi. The forward positions will be filled by Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, and Samuel Chukwueze.
The reigning Africa Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen, has been ruled out due to injury, alongside South Africa-based centre-back Olisa Ndah. However, defender Bright Osayi-Samuel returns to the squad after missing the matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda last month, and the in-form playmaker Chidera Ejuke is also back after a lengthy absence.
Veteran forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been included in the lineup, along with midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, and Frank Onyeka.
The Super Eagles are set to host the Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 11th October, before traveling to Benghazi to face the Knights at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, located 19 kilometers from Benghazi, on Tuesday, 15th October.
All the players are expected to report in Uyo on Monday, 7th October.
