All African Games: Flying Eagles suffer defeat against Uganda

The Nigeria Flying Eagles began their campaign in the football event of the 2023 African Games on losing notes as they were beaten 2-1 by Uganda.

The team under Ladan Bosso has been in camp Abuja getting ready for the games and they finally arrived in Accra Ghana on Tuesday.

They face Hippos of Uganda at the Cape Coast stadium on Thursday and it was a difficult outing for them.

It was Uganda who broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute through Arafat Usama after they seized control of the game.

Flying Eagles equalised the goal in the 36th minute against the run of play as Sadiq Isyaka header in from a corner kick.

The Ugandans proved to be the better side, especially in the second but Nigeria’s goalkeeper kept them at bay.

The Hippos finally got their well-deserved winning goal in the 81st minute after the Nigerian goalkeeper failed to handle Ivan Irinimbabazi’s long-range efforts.

Despite the pressure from the Nigerians, the Ugandan defenders did enough to see out the game .
