ARSENAL TRIGGERS £27M OPTION TO SIGN GOALKEEPER FROM BRENTFORD ON LONG-TERM DEAL

Arsenal have activated the £27 million buy-option to sign Spanish goalkeeper, David Raya on a long-term deal from Brentford.

The 28-year-old who joined Arsenal on a season-long loan in August of last year quickly became Mikel Arteta’s first choice goalkeeper resulting to Aaron Ramsdale’s demotion to 2nd choice.

Raya kept 16 clean sheets to win the Golden Glove as The Gunners narrowly missed out on their first Premier League title in two decades to Manchester City.

Raya had made more than 100 appearances for Blackburn Rovers before moving to Brentford in the summer of 2019 and went on to become an important player for Thomas Frank in his four years at Brentford before Arteta made a surprise move for the Spanish shot-stopper.

In 41 appearances across all competitions last season, he kept 20 clean sheets and saved two penalties against Porto that helped Arsenal reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 14 years.

Arsenal would begin their 2024/25 Premier League campaign against Wolves at the Emirates on August 17.
