BREAKING NEWS: AFCON 2025 to span two years

Finally, a date has been set for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco. Reel Radio has gathered that the championship will now take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.

That is one of the choices made by the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee, which met virtually approximately two hours ago.

The confederation has been concerned about the date of the competition, which was originally set for the January-February calendar. That period was unachievable due to the qualifying series’ crowded schedule.

The qualifying series for the 2026 World Cup has already filled the available windows, making it impossible for the 24 AFCON 2025 finalists to emerge before January 2025.

Morocco considered holding the tournament in the summer of 2025, however the inaugural 32-format FIFA Club World Cup of 2025 has made this impossible.

Other concerns for CAF include the time of this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which has yet to be scheduled, as well as the annual Women’s Champions League, which has no hosts and no date as of yet.
