The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has addressed the situation regarding the AFCON 2025 qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya.
The Super Eagles players and officials were left stranded at Al Abraq International Airport for over 19 hours, lacking food, water, and Internet access.
Ultimately, the Nigerian team departed from Libya, opting not to participate in the match scheduled for the following day.
CAF has now escalated the issue to its Disciplinary Board for further examination.
CAF’s official statement indicates, “The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has engaged with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities after receiving reports that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical staff were left in unacceptable conditions for an extended period at an airport where they were reportedly directed to land by Libyan officials.”
The statement further notes, “The issue has been submitted to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation, and appropriate measures will be taken against those who have breached the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
