Enyimba’s prospects of moving forward to the knockout stage of the CAF Confederation Cup took a serious hit on Sunday, as they faced a 3-0 defeat against Mozambique’s Black Bulls at the Estadio do Zimpeto in Marracuene.
The People’s Elephants, looking to bounce back from a previous loss to Al Masry and a home draw with Zamalek, struggled once more against a resolute Black Bulls team that excelled in all facets of the match.
The scoring began in the 16th minute with Nigerian midfielder Rume Akporoh finding the net. Right-back Fidel Sousa extended their lead in the 57th minute, and Nigerian striker Ayuba Francis Abubakar capped off the victory with a third goal in the 64th minute, marking Black Bulls’ first win in the group stage.
Enyimba now sits at the bottom of Group D, accumulating only one point from three matches, with two losses and one draw. Their disappointing performance raises significant concerns about their chances of advancing past the group stage.
Despite recording 20 clearances, five interceptions, and four blocked shots, Enyimba’s offensive efforts were lacking. They attempted 15 shots on goal but managed to hit the target only twice, both of which were easily saved. In contrast, Black Bulls demonstrated clinical finishing by converting all their shots on target into goals.
To have any hope of reaching the Round of 16, Enyimba must secure victories in their remaining three group matches and depend on favorable outcomes in other matches within the group.
