The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The winner of the tournament, which will be hosted in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya, will take home a whopping $3.5 million, a 75% increase from the previous amount.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament, stating that the CHAN is an essential competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players.
He emphasized that the tournament will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions.
Motsepe also highlighted that the CHAN is part of CAF’s strategy to invest in African football, making it more appealing and attractive to fans, TV viewers, sponsors, and partners worldwide.
The total prize money for the CHAN 2024 has been increased to $10.4 million, a 32% increase from the previous amount. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on February 1, 2025, and will feature 18 teams from across Africa.
