Despite crashing out of the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, President Bola Tinubu and wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have commended the Super Falcons, Reelradio.com.ng reports.
The Super Falcons dominated but fell short as England rode their luck after going down to 10 players as Lauren James was sent off.
The Lionesses knocked Nigeria out of the Women’s World Cup in a last-16 penalty shootout in Brisbane on Monday, with Chloe Kelly scoring the decisive spot-kick after Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie both missed the shoot-out following a 0-0 stalemate draw over 120 thrilling minutes.
However, Wife of the President, Distinguished Senator (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu CON hosted players and officials of the Super Falcons at the State house villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The Super Falcons were hailed towards their outing at the biggest stage level, based on their hard work, focus and determination which were seen and appreciated by Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. Wife of the President minced no words in saying they made Nigerians proud with their scintillating football and deserve to be honoured.
Three players from the Falcons squad: Onome Ebi, Tochukwu Oluehi and Christy Ucheibe were rewarded with $10,000 each.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation has been asked to prepare account details of the 20 players and forward to presidency, who will reportedly make DIRECT payments to the players.
In attendance were the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima and the wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Akpabio.
A number of technical and administrative officials, the NFF President, NFF 1st Vice President (Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu) and the General Secretary (Dr Mohammed Sanusi).
