Manchester City secured a late victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers with a score of 2-1 in the Premier League, thereby extending their unbeaten streak in the league to 31 matches and reclaiming the top position.

Under the management of Pep Guardiola, the team has been known for their quick starts this season, having scored a league-leading seven goals within the first 20 minutes of matches.

However, despite their early momentum, they found themselves trailing after just seven minutes. A counterattack from Wolves resulted in their first successful pass in the attacking third, with Nélson Semedo delivering a precise ball to Jørgen Strand Larsen, who finished expertly past the onrushing Ederson. José Sá, filling in for the injured Sam Johnstone, was quick to react, deflecting İlkay Gündoğan’s shot around the post, and shortly thereafter, Ederson denied Semedo’s attempt as he surged through the center.

After enduring nearly half an hour of relentless pressure, City finally found the equalizer when Joško Gvardiol received the ball at the edge of the penalty area. Following his previous goal against Newcastle United, he executed a stunning curling shot that grazed Sá’s fingertips before finding the top-right corner of the net. As halftime approached, Savinho nearly turned the tide with a close-range effort, but once again, Sá was there to make a crucial save.

In the first half, City completed an impressive 218 passes in the final third, while Wolves managed a mere five, indicating that the visitors’ strategy might not be tenable. Matheus Cunha came close with a shot that narrowly missed the target, yet this was a rare moment of relief for a Wolves side that had been largely confined to their defensive third. As tensions mounted within Molineux, Guardiola sought inspiration from his substitutes, but a spell of limited clear chances ensued as the match neared its conclusion. Surprisingly, despite their overwhelming possession, City was unable to create a significant opportunity in the dying minutes, allowing Wolves to secure a valuable point.
