France finished second place in Group D after a frustrating 1-1 draw with Poland at Dortmund.

Les Bleus had the better opportunities in the first half but couldn’t beat Skorupski, who made four saves.

The Polish goalkeeper poked wide Hernandez’s low strike towards the bottom-left corner and denied Dembele before saving two close range shots from the returning Mbappe, who missed France’s last game with a broken nose.

However, the captain scored after the break from the penalty spot when Kiwior fouled Dembele in the box.

Mbappe took responsibility and curled his strike into the bottom-right corner. There was then a dramatic end to the contest.

Poland were given a spot-kick after a VAR check when Upamecano tripped Swiderski. Lewandowski’s first penalty was saved by Maignan.

However, the goalkeeper was off his line, meaning it had to be retaken, with the Barcelona forward firing his second effort into the bottom-left corner off the post. France created more compared to Poland but the draw means they finish behind Austra, who beat the Netherlands.

They will face the runners-up from Group E next, with Poland out of Euro 2024 on one point.
