The new manager of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, has recently announced his choice of back room assistants. Alongside his former national team mate, Daniel Amokachi, Olatunji Baruwa, Reelradio.com.ng reports.
George unveiled his team during a brief ceremony organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja on Monday.
The names of the two foreign assistants will be disclosed before the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Amokachi, who previously worked as an assistant to late coaches Shaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi, is returning to familiar territory. Finidi has also kept Olatunji Baruwa as the goalkeeper’s trainer, who previously served under the former head coach Jose Peseiro.
The 53-year-old resigned from his position as head coach of NPFL champions Enyimba on Sunday to concentrate on his new role.
The Super Eagles’ first official game with him as coach will be a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Friday, June 7, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
NFF: It’s pay-as-you-go for Finidi assistants
According to NFF president Ibrahim Gusau, the support staff for the new Super Eagles coach Finidi George will be engaged for specific assignments rather than being on a contract with a salary.
As per Gusau, Finidi’s assistants will receive allowances and bonuses that are due to the team, but their payment will depend on the matches or tournaments they are engaged for.
The new coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi, was appointed due to the demands of Nigerians for a local coach to take charge.
Finidi will be assisted by Benjamin James, Chima Onyeike (Fitness trainer), Mehmet Ozturk (match analyst), Daniel Amokachi, and Olatunji Baruwa (goalkeeper trainer).
