“Finidi to be introduced by NFF during media session on Monday”

The official presentation of Finidi George, the new head coach of the Super Eagles, will take place on Monday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The upcoming unveiling event is expected to have some notable figures in attendance, including the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Tinuke Watti, President of NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, and the NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, as stated in a press release on Sunday.

“In his second season coaching Enyimba FC, George led the team to win the Nigeria elite division title and has left the club in a position to potentially retain the title this season with six matches remaining. He turned down an opportunity to coach a second-tier team in Spain to return to Nigeria and lead the two-time CAF Champions League winners. George is a top-notch coach who has proven his ability to lead his team to success.”

“Enyimba FC currently holds the third spot on the NPFL table with 53 points from 32 matches. They are four points away from the table leaders, Enugu Rangers, and three points from second-placed Remo Stars. Recently, George stepped down from the Aba giants, but Enyimba FC continues to maintain a strong position in the league.”

“george spent 20 months as an assistant to Portuguese coach José Peseiro from the summer of 2022. During their tenure, the Super Eagles successfully qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and almost secured their fourth African title in Cote d’Ivoire three months ago, falling short by only 28 minutes.”

In a few weeks, George has the task of leading Nigeria’s national soccer team to victory against South Africa and Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. As a player, George himself has an impressive record, with 62 senior-level caps for Nigeria and a gold, silver, and bronze medal from the Africa Cup of Nations. He has also played in two FIFA World Cup finals.
