Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach, Winfried Schaefer has emerged as a top contender for the Super Eagles technical adviser position.
The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, last week Thursday announced that they will hire and expatriate to salvage the team’s 2026 World Cup qualification.
Schaefer, a seasoned coach with extensive experience in international football, is reportedly in talks with the NFF.
The German boasts an impressive coaching pedigree, having led Cameroon to the 2002 World Cup and guiding various clubs in Europe and Asia. His wealth of experience and success in African football makes him a strong contender for the coveted position.
The NFF is expected to make an official announcement soon, but sources close to the negotiations confirm that Schaefer is the leading candidate to take charge of the Super Eagles.
If appointed, Schaefer will be tasked with guiding Nigeria to success in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers and the remaining 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
