During his unveiling ceremony on Monday, Finidi George addressed rumors about his relationship with some Super Eagles players, Reelradio.com.ng reports.
He clarified that reports of a falling out during the March internationals against Ghana and Mali were untrue.
While his management skills were called into question after events in Morocco, Finidi remains committed to fostering a positive team dynamic.
During the two friendly matches in Morocco last month, Finidi took charge of the Super Eagles in an interim capacity.
He had previously spent 20 months as assistant to José Peseiro before the Portuguese left the post in February 2024. As a former Ajax Amsterdam winger, Finidi stressed that he has a good relationship with the Super Eagles players, while also acknowledging that there is always room for improvement.
When asked about his relationship with the players, Finidi told reporters that he has been with the team for twenty months, and he can assure everyone that his relationship with the players is perfect.
“As the new head coach, my approach remains the same. I aim to build better rapport with the players and enhance our working relationship.
“With professional players, the expectation is to provide them with the standards they are accustomed to in Europe. Unlike there, I don’t have to resort to physical measures to get work done. Communication is key, and I have a way of talking to them that they will comprehend.
“I am confident that my relationship with the players will be perfect going forward. You can rest assured that there won’t be any negative controversy surrounding it.”
Augustine Eguavoen, Pascal Patrick, and Nasiru Jibril were present at Finidi’s unveiling ceremony held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
