Liverpool have opened negotiations with Feyenoord about hiring Arne Slot as their new manager.
The 45-year-old Dutchman has caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs for his success and playing style with Feyenoord.
Liverpool’s search to replace Jurgen Klopp is gathering pace as the end of the season draw nears and the Feyenoord boss is reportedly set to open talks with the Merseyside club as a possible manager replacement.
Slot has caught the eye of several big clubs thanks to Feyenoord’s success since he replaced Dick Advocaat in June 2021.
Sources in Holland has indicated that The Dutchman ticks all their key criteria for the position and could move quickly with the Slot keen to join the Anfield club. The compensation fee is anticipated to be in the region of £9m if a deal is to be closed.
Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim and Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi are still believed to be under consideration after Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the running by committing his immediate future to Bayer Leverkusen. But now multiple reports suggest Liverpool are furthering their interest in Slot.
Slot has enjoyed considerable success with Feyenoord, taking them to the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2022, and the League title the following season. This term, his team won the KNVB Cup playing an attacking, eye-catching brand of football.
Slot has proved capable of improving individuals as well as the collective, while operating on a smaller budget than his core competitors, and his penchant Aggressive, full-throttle 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation fits Liverpool’s squad.
Slot has previously been approached by Tottenham, Chelsea and Leeds. He signed a new contract last May to keep him at Feyenoord until 2026 but has referenced a desire to make the next step in his career.
Other reports have also claimed that Liverpool “could face competition from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan for his services this summer”.
Liverpool are second in the Premier League table behind Arsenal on goal difference, as Klopp looks to end his nine-year tenure with his second Premier League title having already won the Carabao Cup.
