Ademola Lookman netted two goals as Atalanta triumphed over league leaders Napoli with a score of 3-0 during the Serie A matchday 11 encounter held at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday afternoon. This performance propelled him to the top of the leaderboard for the most goal involvements by a Serie A player across all competitions in 2024.
Lookman opened the scoring in the 10th minute after Atalanta effectively pressured Napoli into a defensive stance within their own half. Following a cross into the penalty area that was cleared by Mathias Olivera, Marten de Roon redirected the ball back into the Napoli box. Charles De Ketelaere then flicked it towards the far post, allowing Lookman to volley it home with remarkable accuracy.
At the 30-minute mark, the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee showcased his skill by doubling the lead for the visitors. He once again linked up with De Ketelaere before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box that sailed past goalkeeper Alex Meret.
Just prior to his substitution in the 76th minute, the Super Eagles forward nearly completed his hat-trick, but his shot went wide of the post, marking his final contribution to the match. He was substituted for Lazar Samardzic as coach Gian Piero Gasperini aimed to introduce fresh energy to maintain the lead.
With this brace against Napoli, Lookman has accumulated 16 goals and 11 assists across all competitions this year, the highest tally recorded by any Serie A player. The 27-year-old has also achieved double figures in goal involvements for the current Serie A season, with six goals and four assists to his name.
