Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea have parted ways by mutual consent following his one-season tenure as manager.
During his time in charge, Pochettino guided his young team to the Carabao Cup final. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout the season, the team finished the Premier League campaign strongly with five consecutive victories, securing European football with a sixth-place finish. This marked a significant improvement from Chelsea’s 12th place finish in the previous campaign.
In an announcement made on Tuesday, it was stated that “Chelsea FC can confirm that the club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways.”
Additionally, assistant coaches Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino have also left the club.
Pochettino said: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
The 52-year-old Argentinian, who had just started the position 11 months ago, was appointed last May after a thorough hiring process, taking over from interim manager Frank Lampard, who came in after Graham Potter was dismissed in April 2023.
Chelsea splurged over £400m on new signings, with a significant number of them being under the age of 25, during the summer transfer window. Additionally, they offloaded players worth almost £250m, including key figures from the dressing room like Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic.
