Naija X-ray Abroad: Iwobi, Awoniyi dazzle in defeats; as Boniface off the mark

Reelradio.com.ng brings you the major highlights as several Nigerian stars took to action for their European clubs over the weekends.

First, we go to the English Premier League, where Alex Iwobi’s fine performance for Everton was highlighted by four successful dribbles and three created chances.

The Super Eagles forward could only start from the bench, given that he just recovered from an ankle injury. He wasted no time in making his present felt as he showed great instinct to connect with fellow substitute Anthony Elanga to score his first of the campaign and also make it two in two against the Gunners.

Asides a goal, he also added one to his family as he welcomed a new born baby with his partner.

Super Eagles central defender Semi Ajayi celebrated his seventeenth career goal in the Championship as West Brom claimed a hard-fought 3-2 win over Swansea City at The Hawthorns.

Eighteen minutes in, the former Arsenal youth team skipper volleyed home to break the deadlock.

In Germany, Victor Boniface scored his first competitive goal for Bayer Leverkusen in their 0-8 mauling of FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen.

Victor Boniface shot home Leverkusen’s second of the match in the 42nd minute off as assisted by Álex Grimaldo to open his goal account for the Xabi Alonso tutored team.

In Scotland, Having lost their first league game of the season in the absence of Leon Balogun, the Nigerian played a key role as Rangers sealed a convincing 4-0 victory over Livingston to mark their first win of the campaign.

Fellow Nigerian Cyriel Dessers was also on the pitch but was kept quiet in front of goal.

In Italy, Ademola Lookman played for Atalanta in a goalless friendly draw against Juventus. Tyronne Ebuehi’s Empoli lost 1-2 to Cittadella in the Coppa Italia.

In Czech Republic, Abdullahi Tanko scored his first goal for FC Banik Ostrava, contributing to their 2-0 home win over Hradec Kralove.

In Portuguese top flight, Super Eagles winger Saviour Godwin scored from the penalty spot as Casa Pia won 3-0 against Farense.

Elsewhere in Spain, Umar Sadiq returned from injury in Real Sociedad’s 1-1 draw at home against Girona.

In Turkey, Kenneth Omeruo had an impactful performance for Kasimpasa, contributing three interceptions and one chance created in their 3-2 victory.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored twice for Hatayspor in their 5-1 away win against Pendikspor. Emeka Eze played for Pendikspor as well.
