The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced the commencement of preparations for the final and crucial qualifying window for the 2025 Men’s Afrobasket Championship.
The 31st edition of Africa’s premier men’s basketball tournament, the FIBA Men’s AfroBasket 2025, is set to take place in Luanda, Angola, from August 12 to 24, 2025. This will mark the fourth occasion that Luanda has hosted the event, having previously done so in 1989, 1999, and 2007.
In the initial round of qualifiers, Nigeria faced setbacks, suffering defeats to Libya (82-89), Uganda (72-62), and Cape Verde (78-62). The upcoming round of matches is scheduled for February 21-23, 2025, as the team seeks to mount a remarkable comeback to secure a place in the tournament this August.
To advance, D’Tigers must win at least two of their three matches in the final window and rely on favorable outcomes in other games, as they currently sit at the bottom of Group B with three points, trailing Cape Verde, who leads the group with six points. Libya and Uganda follow with five and four points, respectively.
