Newcastle United is expected to receive an opportunity to acquire Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Magpies are among several Premier League clubs that Osimhen’s representatives believe could be potential suitors next summer. Newcastle had previously scouted Osimhen during his tenure at Lille, prior to his £64.3 million transfer to Napoli.
The prolific striker made a significant impact at Napoli, netting 65 goals in Serie A and securing the title with the illustrious club once associated with Diego Maradona. However, the arrival of Antonio Conte and a shift in tactical approach led to Osimhen being placed on the transfer list.
He subsequently joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan, where he has made an impressive contribution with eight goals and four assists in nine matches across all competitions.
It seems unlikely that Osimhen will extend his loan in Turkey, particularly as he aspires to play in the English Premier League. Nevertheless, Galatasaray is optimistic about securing a permanent transfer for the former LOSC Lille player next summer.
With Aleksandar Isak being linked to Arsenal, who are in urgent need of a striker, Newcastle sees the acquisition of Osimhen as a potential game-changer.
The Napoli loanee is undoubtedly among the top strikers globally when in form. He possesses the attributes of a complete forward, including height, physicality, technical skill, ambidexterity, and exceptional finishing, making him a versatile asset in attack.
To facilitate this transfer, Newcastle must outmaneuver Chelsea, who are also interested in the former VfL Wolfsburg striker.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea remains keen on Osimhen and is looking to enhance their squad beyond Nicolas Jackson, despite the latter’s recent improvements.
For Newcastle to secure Osimhen’s commitment at St James’ Park, they will need to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and ensure that Aleksandar Isak is sold prior to Osimhen’s arrival.
