The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved to clarify recent rumors regarding Chelsea midfielders Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu, who were reported to be in the process of switching their international allegiance to Nigeria, Reelradio.com.ng understands.

As discussions heated up about potential additions to the Super Eagles squad, an NFF official stepped in to label the claims as untrue.

Social media lit up on Friday with speculation that the two Chelsea loanees were preparing to declare for Nigeria. Reports suggested that the transition was almost finalized, with both players supposedly included in a 31-man roster for the upcoming crucial World Cup Qualifiers.

However, a senior NFF official quickly quelled these rumors, stating that the Nigeria Football Federation holds the sole authority to facilitate such allegiance changes: “Only a federation can apply on behalf of players if they intend to switch, the news circulating now is fake news,” the official declared.

Nigerian fans continue to hope that adding talent from Chelsea will help re-energize the team’s quest for World Cup qualification.
