Nottingham Forest is poised to extend a new contract to defender Ola Aina in light of his outstanding performances this season.

The Nigerian international, whose current contract is set to expire next summer, has emerged as a pivotal player in Forest’s defense, receiving acclaim for his adaptability and reliable performances.

Aina’s remarkable contribution during Forest’s surprising 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend has further emphasized his significance to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

The 27-year-old’s disciplined performance garnered the attention of Premier League icon Alan Shearer, who recognized him in his Team of the Week.

Shearer remarked, “Aina played a significant role in Forest’s impressive defensive performance, successfully neutralizing the in-form Luis Diaz, which is quite an accomplishment.”

Ross Wilson, the chief football officer of Forest, had earlier commended Aina’s influence since his arrival at the club last summer, emphasizing both his uplifting demeanor and his contributions during matches.

Since joining Forest as a free agent in July 2023, he has logged twenty-six appearances in all competitions and has two goal involvements to his name.

On the international stage, Aina was officially named the best right-back at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, earning a spot in the Team of the Tournament selected by the CAF Technical Study Group.
