Enyimba FC, a prominent team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has officially announced the dismissal of Yemi Olanrewaju from his position as head coach.
The club made this announcement in a statement released on Saturday, attributing the decision to a series of disappointing performances.
The team, known as the Aba Landlords, has experienced a winless streak of nine matches, which ultimately led to this significant change in leadership.
In conjunction with Olanrewaju’s departure, Enyimba has appointed Stanley Eguma, a coach with two NPFL titles to his name, to take over the role immediately.
This decision follows a troubling period for the club, which has seen them drop to 11th place in the NPFL standings and fourth in their CAF Confederation Cup group, where they have managed to secure only one point from three matches, including a recent 3-0 defeat to Black Bulls.
While the team’s defense has been inconsistent, the primary factor contributing to their decline has been their poor attacking displays in recent months.
The two-time CAF Champions League winners have not achieved victory in their last nine competitive matches, conceding nine goals while scoring only four during this stretch.
Yemi Olanrewaju, who took over as head coach after Finidi George’s resignation, recorded eight wins in 21 NPFL matches, alongside four losses. His tenure resulted in a winning percentage of 38.1% and a losing percentage of 19%.
