NPFL – Title race heats up as 2 points separate Top 4, Enyimba go top of the table


Defending champions Enyimba FC moved top stop in the Nigeria Premier Football League following a comfortable 4-0 victory against Gombe United in Aba on Thursday.

Chijioke Mbaoma bagged a brace for the People’s Elephant, while Uche Collins and Imo Obot also added their names to the score sheet for Finidi George’s side.

Enyimba moved from fifth to top the standings with 39 points from 22 games while Gombe United remain in the relegation zone, occupying 19th position with 21 points.

Lobi Stars occupy 2nd spot with 39 points but with an inferior goal difference, Plateau United sit in third with 38 points while Enugu Rangers complete the top 4 with 37 points.

Elsewhere, In Ibadan, Taye Murtala scored deep into stoppage time as Shooting Stars claimed a 1-0 win against Bendel Insurance.

Meanwhile, a solo goal scored by Sunday Megwo in the 53rd minute was enough for Abia Warriors’ to secure all 3 points 1-0 against Kwara United.
