Ogunmodede, Illechukwu Retain Home-Based Eagles Coaching Roles

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu will retain their roles as head coaches of the home-based national team.

The clarification comes after the appointment of Eric Sekou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. There had been speculation that Chelle would take over the home-based team, but the NFF has stated that he will instead serve in an advisory capacity.

Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu will continue to lead the team, with Chelle providing technical guidance and support when necessary. The NFF emphasized that Chelle’s role is to “supervise and assist” the two head coaches, rather than replace them.

The decision is a vote of confidence in Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu, who have been working with the home-based team. The duo will now focus on preparing the team for the upcoming 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament.
