Gernot Rohr, the former coach of the Super Eagles, has made a significant return to Uyo as he gears up for an exciting match against Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Rohr, who led the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021, was seen arriving in Uyo on Thursday.

Recognized for his calm disposition, the 71-year-old German was observed wearing his signature suit.

Rohr’s return to Uyo follows his team’s 2-1 win against Nigeria in June during a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Throughout his time with Nigeria, Rohr successfully took the Super Eagles to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and secured a third-place finish in the 2019 AFCON.

Although he qualified Nigeria for the 2021 AFCON, he was succeeded by Austin Eguavoen prior to the tournament, in which Nigeria advanced to the Round of 16.

Rohr is likely to be motivated to secure a double victory against Nigeria, aiming to enhance his reputation as he progresses in his managerial career with the Benin Cheetahs.

Meanwhile, Reelradio.com.ng understand that the team arrived at 6:11 PM on a Sky Line flight from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Upon their arrival, the Cheetahs proceed to their assigned camp after obtaining clearance from the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The eagerly awaited match against the Super Eagles is set to take place on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, starting at 5 PM.
