Remo Stars secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Akwa United in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 20 clash at the iconic Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. The match, which kicked off at 4 pm Nigerian Time, saw Akwa United take an early lead, only for Remo Stars to fight back and claim all three points.
The hosts, Akwa United, got off to a flying start, with Uche Sabastine scoring in the 6th minute to give them an early advantage. However, Remo Stars refused to give up, and their persistence paid off in the 74th minute when Samuel Anakwe equalized. The visitors then sealed the win in the 84th minute, courtesy of Adedayo Olamilekan’s strike it was their first ever victory at the God’swill Akpabio International Stadium.
The result has left Akwa United in 19th position on the log, with only 5 wins, 4 draws, and 11 losses from 20 matches, accumulating a total of 19 points. On the other hand, Remo Stars have opened up a 5-point gap at the top of the table, with 12 wins, 3 draws, and 5 losses from 20 matches, earning them 39 points.
The match statistics reveal a closely contested encounter, with Remo Stars edging Akwa United in corners (4-3) and saves (5-4). Akwa United committed more fouls (17-15) and received more yellow cards (3-1).
