Sheffield United keen on Chuba Akpom

Sheffield United are ready to make a move for Middlesbrough hotshot Chuba Akpom, as they look to replace Iliman Ndiaye, Reelradio.com.ng reports.

Crucially Akpom is capable of playing in a deeper-lying striker role, similar to Ndiaye, but is currently battling for fitness after injury.

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom is an admirer of Akpom’s talents and after losing Iliman Ndiaye to Marseille, he is determined to bring in a forward.

Akpom was outstanding in the Championship last season as Middlesbrough enjoyed a fine season.

The 27-year-old joined Boro in 2020, but he struggled to make an impact on Teesside until the arrival of Michael Carrick last season. The appointment of the former Manchester United coach transformed Akpom, who, playing in a slightly deeper role, scored an incredible 29 goals in the Championship.

Now Akpom is drawing attention from several clubs this summer and the Championship outfit were claimed to have slapped a £15m asking price on him at the start of the window.

Everton and Crystal Palace have come up as potential destinations, with the two clubs searching for attacking options. However, nothing concrete has come up yet.

Akpom would come cheap, especially as Middlesbrough would not want him to leave for free next summer. He could cost the blades around €8-12million.
