The Super Eagles camp has officially opened ahead of Nigeria’s pivotal reverse- to- reverse qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Super Eagles is gearing up to host the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winners, South Africa, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, June 7.
After the game against South Africa, Nigeria will take on the Benin Republic at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, three days following the match.
Head Coach Finidi George has called up 23 players for these crucial matches, with the goal of enhancing Nigeria’s unstable beginning in the qualification series.
Nine of the Players have arrived at the team’s training camp in Uyo, with Leicester City duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi among the early risers.
Two of the three NPFL players, Sodiq Ismail and Kenneth Igboke, also took part in the training camp, with Ismael preferred over Ola Aina as the Super Eagles’ right-back, while Igboke was called up as a short-term replacement for injured Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
Other early arrivals include Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Tanzania-based defender Benjamin Tanimu and Hatayspor midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Also confirmed is Rizespor star Ibrahim Olawoyin, who has been called into the squad following the absence of Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella.
The latest player to arrive at the Super Eagles camp is AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze.
Nigeria currently has two points, one behind South Africa and two behind Rwanda, ahead of their matchday three encounter against the Bafana Bafana. The Super Eagles will be looking to secure their first victory in the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign with these upcoming fixtures.
