The Super Eagles of Nigeria have retained their ranking in the most recent Men’s FIFA Rankings for September, notwithstanding their recent showings in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team achieved a decisive 3-0 win against Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, subsequently drawing 0-0 with Rwanda in Kigali.
Nevertheless, these outcomes have not had a substantial effect on Nigeria’s FIFA ranking. The Super Eagles experienced a minor reduction of -0.91 points, decreasing from 1498.93 to 1498.02 points.
Despite this slight drop, the Super Eagles continue to hold the position of the sixth-best footballing nation in Africa and are ranked 39th in the world. They are positioned behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia in the continental standings.
In the global arena, the top ten rankings are occupied by Argentina, France, Spain, England, Brazil, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy. Within Africa, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of Congo complete the top ten.
Looking forward, Nigeria has the potential to enhance its ranking in the forthcoming FIFA rankings, which are scheduled for release on October 24, 2024.
To improve their standing, the Super Eagles must achieve favorable results in their upcoming double-header against Libya in October as the 2025 AFCON qualifying tournament progresses.
