Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the fourth round of the CAF Women’s Olympic qualifier after pipping rivals Cameroon 1-0 in the second leg of the third round of qualifiers at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Monday, Reelradio.com.ng reports.
Esther Okoronkwo scored the decisive goal in the 14th minute to give the Super Falcons a win over the Indomitable Lionesses and advance to the next qualifying round 1-0 on aggregate after the first leg ended goalless in Douala last week.
Nigeria will face either South Africa or Tanzania who are billed to face off on Tuesday at the Mbombela Stadium in South Africa, in the second leg of their third-round qualifiers. The Banyana Banyana are favourite to advance having won the first leg 3-0 away from home last week.
The Falcons will be hoping to return to the Olympics which they last featured in at the 2008 Games in Beijing, China where they crashed out in the group stage.
Despite dominating Africa for decades, the Falcons have been unlucky in their last three attempts to qualify for the Games in London (2012), Brazil (2016) and Tokyo (2020).
