The 2024/2025 NPFL coaching dismissal race has commenced: One has been removed! Who will be the next?

The NPFL coaching shake-up for the 2024/2025 season has commenced, as Lobi Stars have parted ways with Coach Eugene Abagbe and appointed Super Eagles icon Daniel “The Bull” Amokachi as their new Technical Adviser. This decision, made public on Sunday, October 5, 2024, follows a challenging start to the season for Lobi Stars, who currently sit in 17th place after five matches.

Additionally, there are three NPFL coaches in precarious positions, facing potential dismissal if their teams do not show improvement soon.

1. Ladan Bosso – Bayelsa United

Ladan Bosso, the former coach of the Flying Eagles, is considered a potential candidate in the ongoing NPFL coaching shake-up.

Bayelsa United has struggled significantly this season, currently sitting in 18th place. Although they managed to secure a crucial away point against Nasarawa United, the specter of another relegation fight hangs over the club.

While Bosso’s experience may afford him some leeway, his job could be in jeopardy if the team’s performance does not improve. For Bosso to maintain his position, Bayelsa United must achieve greater consistency and secure more victories.

2. Bright Ozebagbe – Ikorodu City

Ikorodu City currently finds itself at the bottom of the NPFL standings, having secured only one point from five matches. Coach Bright Ozebagbe is facing significant pressure to improve the team’s performance or risk losing his position.

Since taking over from Sadiq Dabiri in March 2024, Ozebagbe successfully guided the team to promotion; however, he has encountered difficulties in the top division this season.

If he cannot quickly rectify the situation, particularly with the team conceding late goals and struggling offensively, the Lagos-based club may have to consider a coaching change.

The clock is ticking for Ozebagbe, and fans are demanding prompt enhancements in the team’s performance.

3. Mohammed Baba Ganaru – Akwa United

Baba Ganaru’s Akwa United, a team that claimed the NPFL championship in 2021, is currently facing significant challenges.

With no victories to their name this season, Ganaru is under considerable pressure. Following a 2-1 defeat to Rivers United FC, his team has now suffered three straight losses, placing them in 19th position.

Given the aspirations and legacy of Akwa United, expectations are considerably high. Although Ganaru managed to steer the team clear of relegation last season, the tolerance for underperformance appears to be diminishing.

The outcome of the upcoming match could be pivotal in deciding Ganaru’s future as head coach, potentially making him the second managerial casualty of the season.
