The President of the Confederation of African Football Federations, Patrice Motsepe, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu will be present at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Nigeria and the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, Reelradio.com.ng gathered.
During a press conference in Abidjan on Friday, Motsepe conveyed his optimism about the upcoming final on Sunday and also mentioned that President Tinubu would be among the guests in attendance.
“I was told the President of Nigeria is coming. I was sitting next to the Vice President during the Nigeria-South Africa game. While I can’t show excitement when any nation scores, they said they could see my happiness. And yes, I am always happy,” he said.
President Bola Tinubu will be in Abidjan, Ivory Coast to watch the Super Eagles play hosts Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday.
According to CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, disclosed this during a press conference in Abidjan on Friday.
Motsepe was responding to a question by a Nigerian journalist when next an African country would host the World after South Africa did in 2010.
“Nigeria must put in a bid. The Nigerian president (Bola Tinubu) is coming to watch the final on Sunday…I will have a conversation with him about it ” Motsepe said.
Vice President Kashim Shettima was at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake to watch the Super Eagles qualify for the final after defeating South Africa 4-2 on penalties.
He was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and that of Bayelsa Duoye Diri.
Tinubu had earlier called the Eagles to encourage them before their quarter final win over Angola.
The AFCON final will kick off at 9 pm Nigerian time on Sunday.
