Victor Osimhen scored two goals in Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Samsunspor at RAMS Park on Sunday afternoon, achieving two records in the Turkish Super Lig along the way.
The center forward, who is on loan from Napoli, joined Galatasaray in September after unsuccessful attempts to transfer to Chelsea and Al-Ahli.
Just three minutes into the match, the 25-year-old opened the scoring by leaping above his defender to head the ball into the net from a cross by Lucas Torreira.
Osimhen made history as the first player to score or assist in each of his first six Turkish Super Lig matches since the 2014-2015 season, when Opta began tracking this statistic.
He had previously assisted in matches against Rizespor and Fenerbahce, followed by scoring in four consecutive games against Kasımpaşa, Antalyaspor, Beşiktaş, and Samsunspor.
In the 26th minute, he had another chance when a cross came into the box, but despite being unmarked, he failed to convert.
Four minutes into the second half, Davinson Sánchez fouled an opponent in the box, allowing Olivier Ntcham to equalize with a penalty kick.
Osimhen quickly regained the lead for the reigning Turkish champions by heading in a cross at the far post without hesitation.
Mitchy Batshuayi added to Galatasaray’s advantage five minutes before stoppage time, skillfully placing the ball into the bottom corner.
Although the home team conceded another penalty in stoppage time, converted by Youssef Ait Bennasser, they managed to maintain their composure and secure all three points.
Opta, a British sports analytics firm, confirmed that Osimhen recorded seven headers during the match, the highest number by any player in the Super Lig since detailed data collection began in 2014-2015.
