According to a post on social media, Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman recently visited Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau, as reported by Reelradio.com.ng .
The purpose of the visit is currently unclear, but it could indicate the 20-year-old’s desire to connect with his Nigerian heritage through his mother’s lineage.
Goodman, born in England to a British father and Nigerian mother, has the option to play for England, Nigeria, and Canada.
In the past, he showed interest in representing Canada by accepting a call-up to a U20 training camp in April 2022.
In January 2023, he received an invitation to attend the Flying Eagles training camp for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, but he declined in hopes of being called up to the England Men’s Elite League Squad, which he later achieved.
The goalkeeper, who has English, Canadian, and Nigerian heritage, has played for England’s U20 team twice, participating in matches against the United States in March 2023 and Romania in the U20 Elite League in December of the same year.
He started his career at Crystal Palace as a U13 player and signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2021. Despite not yet making an appearance for the first team, he has been included in the Premier League matchday squad on four occasions.
During the previous season, Goodman went on loan to Colchester United where he played in 40 matches across all competitions for the League Two team, keeping four clean sheets in the process.
