Porto have released a medical update on Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi, stating that the fullback was operated on his left knee on Monday, February 26 at Hospital São Francisco do Porto, in a surgery led by Prof. José Carlos Noronha, Reelradio.com.ng gathered.
The Primeira Liga giants added that the surgery was uneventful, meaning everything went according to plan.
The robust defender played a crucial role for Nigeria throughout the tournament, featuring in every match save for the semi-final clash against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. However, upon his return to club duties, Zaidu Sanusi suffered a setback when the injury resurfaced, prompting the need for surgical intervention.
He was subjected to undergo surgery and according to update from Portugal, the surgery supervised by Professor Jose Carlos Nozoronha was successful.
The Nigerian international is expected to resume his rehabilitation but will be out of action until next season.
Zaidu will not be playing for the Super Eagles when they take on Argentina in a glamour friendly on March 26 and will not be called up for back-to-back 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June 2024.
